TAMPA, Fla. – The #16 Clayton State men's soccer team was shut out by the University of Tampa, 4-0, on Friday evening.  The Lakers had their fair share of opportunities as they outshot the Spartans, 19-12. 
 
The Lakers put the early pressure on the Spartans in the first half as Gonzalo LaChica and Alexis Iturria all connected with shots in the first five minutes of the match.  Tampa then sent in its first goal off a free kick at the 15^th minute.  A few minutes later, the Spartans made the score, 2-0, after they scored a goal off a corner kick in the far side. 
 
The Spartans added a goal in the 38^th minute and led the Lakers, 3-0, after the first 45 minutes.  Clayton State sent in 12 of their 19 shots in the first half.

The start of the second half was a back-and-forth affair as neither team could muster any offense until the Spartans scored their fourth goal at the 55^th minute.  That goal grew the Tampa lead to 4-0. 
 
The Lakers could not find the back of the net in the second half as they dropped their first match this season, 4-0.
