SAINT LEO, Fla. – The No. 16 Clayton State University men's soccer team bounced back from a loss on Friday to beat the Saint Leo University Lions, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Lakers began the first half with an early goal. In the 4
th minute, off a nice cross from
Geo Rios,
Gonzalo LaChica scored his second goal of the season and made the score, 1-0. The Lakers kept their foot on the gas as they outshot the Lions, 8-3, in the first half. Clayton State then extended their lead. In the 29
th minute,
Alexis Iturria bent in his first goal of the season off a shot from about 20 yards out. The Lakers led 2-0.
After the Lions cashed in on a penalty kick in the 32
nd minute, Clayton State kept up their scoring ways. In the 40
th minute, Iturria was streaking up the far side, fed the ball to
Aaron Diaz toward the middle of the box, and hooked up with
John Michael Torres who rifled a shot past the keeper making the score, 3-1. That same score would hold true going into the halftime break.

In the beginning of the second half, the Lakers saw shots from Diaz, LaChica, and
Wilfried Kamden but none found the back of the net and the score remained, 3-1. In the 67
th minute, the Lakers would tally another goal. Off one-touch passes from
Emmanuel Alerte and Iturria,
Adrian Gallegos scored his second goal of the season and made the score 4-1.
The Lakers outshot the Lions, 17-9, and won the match, 4-1.
