Women's Soccer Outlasts Delta State at Laker Field

Tahlia Stangherlin knocked in a pair of goals

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team hosted the Delta State University Lady Statesmen on Tuesday evening at Laker Field.  The Lakers pulled out a 2-1 victory. 
 
The Lakers and Lady Statesmen traded possessions most of the first half. Clayton State scored the lone goal of the first half in the 11th minute.  After Carrie Consolino was streaking down the far side, she hit Tahlia Stangherlin with a nice one-touch pass and sent the ball into the back of the net for a goal.  The Lakers led 1-0. 
 
The Lakers outshot the Lady Statesmen, 3-2, and led 1-0 going into the halftime break.
 
Halftime: Clayton State 1, Delta State 0
 
Early in the second half, Delta State scored the equalizing goal in the 49th minute and made the score 1-1.  The Lady Statesmen were controlling most of the possession until the Lakers started to make a push midway through the half.  In the 59th minute, off a well-placed corner kick by Chloe Flannaghan, Stangherlin knocked in her second goal of the match making the score, 2-1. The Lakers then saw shots from Ida Ditlevsen, Consolino, and Flannaghan but none found the back of the net. 
 
The Lady Statemen outshot the Lakers, 5-1, in the rest of the match but Clayton State held on to down Delta State, 2-1.
