Lakers Shutout USC Aiken at Laker Field on Saturday

The win snaps a three-match losing streak

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team snapped their three-match losing skid as they defeated the USC Aiken Pacers, 2-0, at Laker Field on Saturday afternoon.  Lisa Kelm picked up her second clean sheet victory of the season.

The two teams played to a 0-0 tie after the first 45 minutes of play.  Both teams traded possessions throughout the half, but each team saw their fair share of opportunities.  The Pacers saw their best chance to get on the scoreboard in the 11th minute and the 18th minute, but Kelm made a pair of good saves. Carrie Consolino had the best chance for the Lakers in the 44th and 45th minute but both those shots were stopped by the Pacer keeper.

Halftime: Clayton State 0, USC Aiken 0

In the second half, the Lakers opened the scoring in the 55th minute.  Off a pass from Amiah Sprunger Hightower into the box, Chloe Flannaghan rung the cash register for her second goal of the year.  Clayton State led, 1-0.  The Lakers then kept the pressure on as Julia Hasenecz, Tahlia Stangherlin, and Sprunger Hightower all fired shots within the next four minutes.  The two teams then traded possessions and put off more shots on frame through the midway point of the half.

Later in the half, the Lakers extended their lead.  Off a Pacer corner kick, Consolino intercepted the pass and then streaked down the far side on a breakaway and put the ball into the back of the net for a goal.  The Lakers led, 2-0.

The Lakers outshot USC Aiken, 11-4, in the second half and won the match, 2-0.
