#16 Lakers Down North Greenville for Second Straight Clean Sheet on Tuesday Evening

MORROW, Ga. – The No. 16 Clayton State University men's soccer team continue its four-match homestand with a non-conference matchup with the Crusaders of North Greenville University on Tuesday afternoon.  The Lakers earned its second straight shutout winning, 1-0.

The Lakers controlled most of the possession in the first half and outshot the Crusaders, 9-5.  The Lakers continued to press most of the half, but the Crusaders saw a pair of quick counters in the 9th and 11th minute but of those chances were thwarted by Mauricio Uribe

The best opportunity for the Lakers to crack the scoring column came in the 25th minute when Geo Rios hooked up with Adrian Gallegos who fired a shot into the back of the net.  The play was eventually called off due to an offside call.  The score remained at 0-0 going into the halftime break.

Halftime: No. 16 Clayton State 0, North Greenville 0

The Lakers continued to pressure the Crusaders early in the second half.  In the 49th minute, Adrian Gallegos got fouled in the box by the NGU keeper which forced a penalty kick.  Rios took the kick and opened the scoring for the Lakers as they led, 1-0.  Both teams saw their fair share of chances as Isami Takeuchi, Hector Fuentes, Wilfried Kamden, and Rios all missed shots that went just above the cross bar.  The match stayed at 1-0, Clayton State.

The Crusaders saw their best opportunity come in the final minute of the match when they sent in a corner kick, but it was eventually punched out by Uribe.  The Lakers picked up the 1-0 win over North Greenville.
