Men's Soccer Earns a Road Win at Georgia Southwestern

Geo Rios scored a goal and added an assist

AMERICUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team opened Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play traveling to Georgia Southwestern University.  The Lakers opened PBC play with three points as they defeated the Hurricanes, 2-1. 
 
Both teams traded possessions most of the first half.  The two teams combined for only six shots the whole half.  The Lakers scored the lone goal of the half.  In the 31st minute, Geo Rios sent in an exceptional corner kick and Gonzalo LaChica headed the ball into the back of the net for his third goal of the season. 
 
The Lakers held on to a 1-0 lead going into the second half. 
 
Halftime: Clayton State 1, Georgia Southwestern 0
 
The two teams picked it up offensively in the second half as both teams combined for 16 shots.  In the early part of the half, Rios, Hector Fuentes, and Alexis Iturria all fired in shots in the first five minutes.  The Hurricanes found the back of the net in the 56th minute and made the score, 1-1.  That tie did not last long as the Lakers took the lead.  After Iturria was streaking down the far side, Rios rifled a shot past the GSW keeper for a goal.  Clayton State retook the lead at 2-1.
 
Clayton State attempted 12 shots in the second half as they defeated Georgia Southwestern, 2-1.
