DAVIE, Fla. – The No. 12 Clayton State University men's golf team continued play in the 2023 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regionals at Grande Oaks Golf Club on Friday. After 36 holes, the Lakers stand in sixth place with a score of four-over par. Barry University holds the four-stroke lead over West Florida at nine-under par after 36 holes.
After two rounds of play,
Hank Kim's squad is forth in the field averaging 4.06 strokes on the par-four holes and has totaled 31 birdies and 109 pars. Leading the Lakers in the second round was
Nico Cabello. Cabello was the lone Laker to shoot under or at par after carding a second round 71 (E). The Laker senior led the team in knocking in four birdies on the round and is in tied for 15
th overall.
Following close behind is
Felipe Gomez and
Sam Hershoff, who both shot 73 (+2) in the second round. Hershoff wrote three birdies in his scorecard while Gomez knocked in a pair. Both Gomez and Hershoff are tied in 29
th place at one-over par.
Daniel Medellin then followed behind after shooting a second round 74 (+3) and is currently in a tie for 60
th place at four-over. Medellin birdied two of the final four holes in his round.
Augusto Oliva then rounded out the golfers for the Lakers. Oliva finished the second round with a 77 (+6) and is tied for 72
nd at six-over par.
The Lakers conclude the Regional on Saturday, May 13
th as they begin teeing off at 11:50 a.m. with Lee University and Shorter University. Fans can follow the Lakers take on the final round via golfstat.com!
