AUGUSTA, Ga. – The #11/10 Clayton State University men's golf team continued play at the 2023 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Men's Golf Championships on a sun-drenched Saturday at the Forest Hills Golf Club. The Lakers stand in sixth place out of nine schools after 36 holes of golf.
Leading the team in the second round was
Sam Hershoff. Hershoff leads the field with going two-under on the par-threes and is tied for second hitting in nine birdies. He shot even par in his round that consisted of seven birdies, four of which were on the back nine, and five pars. Hershoff, after two rounds, is in tied for 12
th at three-over.
Augusto Oliva then followed Hershoff after carding a second round 74 (+2) and moved up seven places into a tie for 32
nd. Oliva carded four birdies on the day. Gomez then followed Oliva. After shooting a first round 71, Gomez shot a second round 76 and dropped to a tie for 12
th place. Gomez shot one-under on the back nine.
Nico Cabello and
Daniel Medellin rounded out the Lakers in the PBC Championship. Cabello carded a second-round score of 76 (+4) and stands in tied for 28
th while Medellin also carded a 76 (+4) and is in tied for 36
th.
Out of the 45 golfers in the field, four are currently under-par. After shooting seven-under as a team, USC Aiken took the lead in the team leaderboard followed by Georgia Southwestern and North Georgia. The Lakers, who fell to sixth, will be paired with Flagler and Lander in tomorrow's final round. The three teams will tee off from the back-nine starting at 9:20 a.m.
