Men's Golf | March 7, 2023

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The No. 11 Clayton State University men's golf team finished play at the Bearcat Invitational at the Greenwood Country Club on Tuesday.  The Lakers finished in third place.  The No. 1 team in the nation Anderson finished on top followed by tournament host Lander University.  This is the first time the Lakers finished under-par as a team to finish a tournament. 
 
Closing out the tournament strong was Nico Cabello and Felipe Gomez.  Cabello, who finished in ninth place, carded a final round 68 (-4), which was the best round for a Laker in the final round.  On his scorecard, the Laker senior shot three birdies and an eagle.  In addition, he led the team and was tied for third in the field shooting seven-under on the par-fives.  Gomez, who finished in tied for 10^th, also had a good round as she shot a 72 (E) in the final 18 holes. 
 
Following Gomez was Sam Hershoff.  Hershoff, who led the team at the end of the first two rounds, shot a final round 74 (+2) and finished in tied for 15^th place.  Augusto Oliva and Daniel Medellin rounded out the Lakers at the Bearcat Invitational.  Oliva shot a final round 73 (+1) and found himself finishing in tied for 36^th, while Medellin shot a final round 79 and finished in tied for 76^th place. 
 
As a team, the Lakers finished tied for first in total pars (184) while placing second averaging 3.1 strokes on the par-threes and 3.6 strokes on the par-fives.  Clayton State posted their second third place finish of the season at the Bearcat Invitational.
