The Lakers Use a Full Team Effort to Cruise Past North Georgia

Taniya Patrick came off the bench and scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team saw contributions from up and down the lineup as they defeated the Nighthawks of the University of North Georgia, 74-64, on Wednesday evening. 
 
Laylah Davis, who finished with a team-high 18 points, scored the first seven points for the Lakers in the first quarter.  Clayton State led 7-2.  At the score 11-6, North Georgia went on an 8-0 run and took the lead at 14-11.  Davis, later, tied the game at 14 with a three.  The two teams found themselves tied at 17 at the end of the first quarter. 
 
The Lakers then dominated the second quarter outscoring North Georgia 29-12.  Clayton State opened the stanza on a 20-2 run and extended their lead to 37-18.  Jada Francois Lubin sparked the run with a three while Jada Moss added nine points.
 
At the score, 41-25, the Lakers saw baskets from Dana Johnson and Jordan Jones to end the quarter.  The Lakers took a commanding 46-29 lead going into the halftime break.

The Lakers carried their momentum from the first half into the early part of the second half.  Audrey McElhaney and Taniya Patrick, in her first game since December 19th, scored the early points for the Lakers.  Clayton State pulled out in front, 53-34.  Patrick had a big third quarter for the Lakers as she dropped in nine of the 14 points scored.  Clayton State took a 60-44 lead going into the final quarter. 
 
The Nighthawks cut into their deficit early in the fourth quarter.  They started the quarter on a 6-2 run and were still behind 62-50.  Then, Patrick, McElhaney and Davis all scored points and extended the lead to 71-58. 
 
Diamond Swift scored the final three points for the Lakers as they cruised to a 74-64 win over North Georgia.
