AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball season came to end on Saturday afternoon as they fell to #20 Augusta University, 99-73. The Lakers saw three of their starters hit double-figures in scoring.
Augusta started the first half on a 9-4 run.
Brian Coffey II and
Wes Williams provided the offense for the Lakers. After
Ricardo Saams Jr. and
Bryce Weinmunson made field goals, which moved the score to 9-8, the Jaguars went on a 12-2 and extended their lead to 21-10.
Travis Harper II halted the run with a layup. The Jaguars controlled the tempo in the rest of the first half as they went on a 13-0 run and made the score 34-12.
Kobie Johnson drained a three to end the lengthy scoring drive.
Johnson,
Christian Chambers, and Saams Jr. all scored points in the final two minutes of the half, but Augusta took a 48-24 lead into the halftime break.

The Jaguars continued extend their lead as they started the second half on a 11-3 run and took a 59-27 lead. Harper II then buried a three-ball and made the score 59-30. At the score 64-32,
Baqi Lecky made a pair of threes and closed the gap to 68-38. With Augusta up 73-40,
Xavier Joyner and Weinmunson tossed in the next seven points and moved the score to 75-47.
The Lakers then went on a little run down, 85-52. Joyner and Lecky sparked an 8-0 scoring run but Clayton State still trailed 85-60. Johnson and Williams both hit threes down the stretch, but Augusta came out on time 99-73.
