Lakers Earn the Road Victory at Georgia College and State on Saturday Afternoon

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team won their fourth-straight game as they defeated the Bobcats of Georgia College and State University, 69-58, on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Jessica Maye, Audrey McElhaney, and Laylah Davis got the scoring started for the Lakers in the first quarter and found themselves tied at six.  The two teams then went back-and-forth the rest of the quarter.  Clayton State led after one quarter, 15-13. 
 
Taniya Patrick gave the Lakers a four-point lead to start the second quarter, 17-13.  The Bobcats then went on an 8-0 run and took a 21-17 lead.  Davis then buried a three to end the Bobcat run.  At the score, 25-22, the Lakers retook the lead, going on a 9-0 run.  That run was highlighted by a three-ball from Hannah Wright
 
The Lakers made all seven of their free throws as they took a 31-28 lead going into the half.  Davis led Clayton State with seven points. 
 
Halftime: Clayton State 31, Georgia College 28
 
McElhaney and Diamond Swift produced the early scoring for the Lakers in the third quarter.  They led 37-30.  After the Bobcats cut the game to four at 40-36, the Lakers went on a 6-0 run highlighted by a three-ball by Devyne Turner.  Clayton State led 46-36.  The Bobcats marked four of the final seven points, but the Lakers led 49-40 going into the fourth quarter. 
 
Davis kicked off the scoring efforts for the Lakers in the fourth quarter.  They pulled out in front 53-45.  After the Bobcats cut into the Lakers deficit and only trailed by five at 57-52, Clayton State went on an 11-3 run and made the score 69-55.  Davis hit a three during that run. 
 
The Lakers pulled away at the end of the game and defeated GCSU, 69-58.
