MORROW, Ga. -- The United Soccer Coaches (USC) and the College Sports Communicators (CSC) unveiled its Scholar and Academic All-America selections for this season on Tuesday. The Clayton State University men's soccer team saw two of its athletes earn these honors.

Laker midfielder Geo Rios earned first-team USC Scholar All-America along with a first-team CSC Academic All-America nod.  Rios is the only selection on the USC list that repeated from last season while he is one of two selections on the CSC to earn this award more than once.  Rios is only the second Laker, joining Maria Marti Bartis of women's soccer to earn back-to-back Academic All-America mention.  In addition, both Christian Ransome and Rios earned the USC All-South Region Scholar Athlete accolades.  Christian Ransome joins Rios as he earned second-team CSC Academic All-America mention.  This is the first such accomplishment for Ransome.  The two Lakers joined Jed Smith of Lander as the only Peach Belt Conference (PBC) selections.

Rios has had an exceptional career for the Lakers from 2019-23.  During his illustrious career, Geo broke the school record in matches played (86), matches started (77), points (102), and assists (48).  Earlier this season, Rios earned his fifth PBC All-Conference nod including his fourth-straight First-team mention.  He also earned his third-straight PBC Offensive Player of the Year.  Other accomplishments for this season include being selected as a first-team USC and D2CCA All-America, and a D2CCA and USC All-Region selection.  Rios also has various other academic mentions including earning PBC Team of Academic Distinction and Presidential Honor Roll for several seasons.  This season, the Lawrenceville native and three-year captain scored 10 goals and added 12 assists.

Like Rios, Ransome had an exceptional career for the Lakers from 2019-23.  During his time in Morrow, the Trinidad & Tobago native played in the second-most matches in school history with 84 matches played.  Ransome was also the program's first Defensive Player of the Year and earned his second first-team All-PBC nod.  Ransome is also a two-time CSC Academic All-District selection and earned various other academic nods during his five seasons including PBC Team of Academic Distinction and Presidential Honor Roll.  This season, Ransome scored a goal and added an assist in the shootout victory over Lenoir-Rhyne University in the First Round of the DII Men's Soccer National Tournament.  He also logged a team-best 1765 minutes.
