Lakers and Hurricanes End in a 1-1 Tie on Wednesday Afternoon

The Lakers currently stand in third place with two matches to go in the Regular Season

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team hosted Georgia Southwestern University on Wednesday afternoon at Laker Field. Adrian Gallegos scored his second goal in two matches as the Lakers drew with Georgia Southwestern, 1-1.

The first half was very evenly matched but aggressive by both teams.  Georgia Southwestern, from the start, peppered Laker keeper Kalle Kuisma with three shots on goal including a PK opportunity.  The Lakers were outshot 7-6 during the half.  The Hurricanes opened the scoring in the 16th minute and made the score, 1-0.  The Lakers continued to pressure the Hurricane keeper.  Adrian Gallegos sent in a pair of shots in the 19th and 28th minute but they were both saved by the GSW keeper.  That 1-0 score would true go into the halftime break.

Halftime: Georgia Southwestern 1, Clayton State 0

The Lakers kept putting tremendous pressure on the Hurricane keeper as they attempted 15 shots and 10 corner kicks in the second half.  Clayton State had their fair share of opportunities, but Georgia Southwestern's keeper made five second half saves. However, the Lakers would break through on the scoreboard.  In the 77th minute Fabian Wagner passed the ball up to Arttu Leivonen and found Gallegos in the middle of the box as the Lakers evened the score at one a side.  In the 80th minute, the Lakers had another golden opportunity as Amaral sent a ball in but it was tipped away by the Hurricane keeper.

Perhaps the next best opportunity came in the 86th minute when Eric Cruz sent a ball into the top right corner of the net, but the ball bounced off woodwork.  The Lakers and Hurricanes settled for a 1-1 draw.
