MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team returned to the Loch on Wednesday evening and earned its first win of the season defeating Clark Atlanta, 78-70. The Lakers saw good production up and down the lineup.
The Lakers saw early scoring production from
Sariya Henry,
Aaliyah Reid, and
Hannah Wright to start the first quarter. The Lakers jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Clark Atlanta then scored the next eight points and made the score 8-7.
Nina Blade stopped that run with a jumper making the score, 9-8. The Lakers held the Panthers scoreless in the final three minutes of the quarter and jumped out to a 20-10 lead going into the second quarter.

After Clark Atlanta nailed a three to begin the second quarter, the Lakers picked up where they left off and went on an 8-0 run and moved the score to 26-13. The Panthers started to claw back into the game and cut the lead to eight at 30-22 but a three-ball by
Hannah Wright put the Lakers up by double-digits again at 33-22.
Wright and Waite all hit threes in the final three minutes of the half as the Lakers led 42-25 going into the halftime break.

The Panthers came out to play in the third quarter as they went on a 12-0 run and cut the Laker lead to five at 42-37.
Tamaria White put two free throws through to end the run. White then hit the first field goal of the half for Clayton State with 5:16 left and made the score 46-39. At the score 48-41, Clark Atlanta hit a pair of threes and closed the gap to one at 48-47 with 3:10 left. The Lakers then led 53-51 going into the final quarter of play. They led going into the fourth quarter despite being outscored 26-11 in the quarter.
Neither team got anything going offensively early in the fourth quarter until Reid hit a jumper three minutes into the quarter. The Lakers led, 56-51. Clark Atlanta eventually took the lead at 57-56, but baskets by
Devyne Turner, Redmon, and Reid, moved the score to 63-58, Lakers with under four left to play.
After Clark Atlanta tied the game at 63 with under three left, Clayton State used timely shooting by Wright, Waite, Blade, and Redmon to win the game, 78-70.
