ANDERSON, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team concluded play at the Southeast Regional Challenge on Sunday evening against Anderson University. The Trojans, who served as the tournament host, defeated the Lakers, 95-88.
The Trojans started the game on a 7-0 run until
Travis Harper II made a layup and
Jamall Clyce made a jumper. The two teams seemed to trade blow for blow until the Lakers cut into the Anderson lead. At the score 16-10, baskets by Harper II and
Keandre Bowles cut the gap to a three-point game at 18-15. Anderson then kept extending its lead as they went on a 13-4 run and made the score 31-19.
Christian Chambers and Bowles marked points for the Lakers.
With 5:15 left,
Tyler Shirley and Harper II drilled three-balls, but the Lakers still found themselves down by seven at 41-34. Clayton State scored the final five points of the half but still trailed 47-40 going into the halftime break.

Clyce and
TJ Stargell supplied the early offense for the Lakers in the second half but they still trailed 51-44. After Anderson scored the next four points, Bowles and
Kenneth Brayboy combined for the next six Laker points as they closed the gap back to five at 57-52. Halfway through the half and down eight,
Wes Williams and Bowles knocked down three-balls and cut the deficit to 69-65. Anderson proved to always have an answer to a Laker run and never let the Lakers get back within four the rest of the game.
Clayton State, down by as much as 13 in the second half, got within five with about 30 seconds left but was unable to cut into that deficit as they fell, 95-88.
