AIKEN, S.C. – The #11 Clayton State University men's soccer team picked up a decisive 4-1 win over USC Aiken on Wednesday evening.
From the opening whistle, the Lakers immediately put the pressure on the Pacers as
Adrian Gallegos and
Geo Rios attempted shots. Neither team could not gain any momentum through the half until the last five minutes. In the 44
th minute, the Pacer defense fouled a Clayton State player in the box and
Geo Rios converted the penalty kick for a goal. The Lakers led 1-0 going into the halftime break. The Laker defensive unit only allowed one shot in the first half.

Both teams turned up play in the second half. Rios started the second half with a shot on target, but the score remained at 1-0. The Pacers then put two straight shots on frame, but
Mauricio Uribe saved both of those shots. Clayton State then extended their lead in the 64
th minute. Both the Lakers and Pacers were fighting for the ball in the far side box, but it was eventually possessed by
Wilfried Kamden who fired a shot into the back into the net for a goal. The Lakers led 2-0.
Later in the half, the Pacers closed the gap to 2-1 after notching a goal in the 74
th minute. Clayton State extended their lead later a couple of minutes later. In the 76
th minute, Rios sent the ball in for
Adrian Gallegos, but it was saved by the Pacer keeper. The USC Aiken keeper fed the ball to his defender who shot the ball into the back of a net for an own goal. The Lakers led 3-1. Coach Petersen's squad was not done yet. In the 84
th minute,
Aaron Diaz was streaking down the far side into the corner of the box. He then passed the ball to Gallegos and finished for the goal.
The Lakers defeated USC Aiken, 4-1, earning their seventh straight victory.
