#11 Men's Soccer Rolls Past Flagler on Sunday Afternoon

The Lakers are off to their best start in the PBC in program history

SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The #11 Clayton State University men's soccer team traveled down to the Sunshine State to play Flagler College on Sunday evening.  The Lakers blew past Flagler, 4-1.

The Lakers got off to a quick start as Alexis Iturria, Geo Rios, and Adrian Gallegos all fired in shots in the first 10 minutes of the match.  Mauricio Uribe then stopped a pair of Saint shots in the 25th and 28th minutes.  The Lakers then opened the scoring.  In the 34th minute, off a nice one-touch pass from Iturria, Isami Takuechi sends a laser of a shot past the Saint keeper for the goal. Clayton State pulled ahead 1-0.

The Lakers had a couple more opportunities to ring the cash register in the first half.  In the 37th minute, both teams found themselves in a scrum for the ball in the box and eventually it was possessed by Emmanuel Alerte.  Alerte saw his point-blank shot stopped by the Saint defender as the keeper was out of the box.  Iturria had a similar opportunity to score but the Flagler keeper saved that shot as well.  The Lakers led 1-0 at the end of the first 45 minutes.

Halftime: #11 Clayton State 1, Flagler 0

The Lakers kept their foot on the gas to start the second half.  In the 47th minute, Adrian Gallegos put the Lakers up 2-0 after his shot from the left side of the box found the back of the net.  Clayton State was not done yet.  In the 52nd minute, Iturria gathered a loose ball in front of the net and finished for his sixth goal of the season and made the score, 3-0.  Iturria did not settle for just one goal as he scored again a few minutes later.  In the 56th minute, Alexis sent in a shot from the far side of the box for his second goal of the match.  The goal, wwhich was assisted by Wilfried Kamden, made the score, 4-0.

The Lakers played conservatively the rest of the match.  However, in the 71st minute, Flagler tallied a goal and made the score, 4-1.  That goal, ultimately, was too little too late as the Lakers pick up an important road victory over Flagler, 4-1.
