COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball picked up a key Peach Belt Conference (PBC) road victory against Columbus State University, 73-67, on Saturday afternoon.
Audrey McElhaney picked up her third double-double ,of the season, in the victory.
Jessica Maye,
Jada Francois Lubin, and
Jadah Waite supplied the early offense for the Lakers, in the first quarter, as they led, 8-6. Maye dropped in half of those points. The Lakers then scored five of the next seven points and pulled ahead, 13-8. McElhaney and
Jada Moss scored the final four points for the Lakers as they ended the quarter leading the Cougars, 17-11.
The second quarter started with the Cougars going on an 11-3 run as they took a 22-20 lead. With Columbus State up 29-26, McElhaney took over the scoring and dropped in the next eight Laker points. Clayton State took a 32-31 lead with three minutes left.
The Cougars finished the quarter scoring seven of the final 11 points and led the Lakers, 38-36, at the half. McElhaney led all Laker scorers with 12 points and seven boards. Five of those seven rebounds were on the offensive side of the ball. Maye and Waite followed with seven and six points, respectively.

Waite started the third quarter for the Lakers and buried a three-pointer and opened a 40-39 lead. At the score 44-41,
Jasmyn Burts knocked down a layup and a three-pointer. The two teams were tied up at 46 at the halfway point of the third quarter. The Lakers then made the next three field goals and went up 52-46.
Devyne Turner,
Jada Moss, and
Jordan Jones made baskets for the Lakers during that run. The Lakers would only score three more points in the third quarter and they led the Cougars, 55-52, going into the final quarter of play.
Laylah Davis started the fourth quarter off strong for the Lakers as she converted an and-one opportunity. The Lakers led 58-52. The scoring went back-and-forth for the majority of the quarter until the halfway mark. At 59-58, McElhaney and
I'Uana Slaughter both made field goals and grew the lead to 63-58.
With Columbus State up 67-65, the Lakers scored the final seven points of the game and won, 73-67. Francois Lubin buried a three-pointer and two free throws during that stretch.

th. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. This game will be a rematch of the 2022 PBC Women's Basketball Championship game where UNG won 72-65.
