MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team fell to the No. 9 Augusta University Jaguars, 79-61, on Saturday afternoon at the Loch. The Jaguars outscored the Lakers 50-30 in the second half, which ended up being the difference in the game.
The Lakers started the first half firing from beyond the arc as
Brian Coffey II,
Wes Williams, and
Xavier Joyner all buried three-pointers. At the score, 12-8, Clayton State went on a 13-0 run and led 21-12. The Jaguars then scored the next five points and cut their deficit to four at 21-17. Then,
Baqi Lecky and
Travis Harper II both nailed field goals and made the score 26-19.
The Jaguars ended the half on a 10-5 run, but the Lakers clung to a halftime lead of 31-29.

Augusta came out of the locker room with all the momentum and went on a 17-2 run and they took the lead at 46-33. Coffey II knocked down a jumper to halt the Jaguar run. The Jaguars continued to press the Lakers. After
Ricardo Saams Jr. made a three-point moving the score to 49-38, Augusta scored six of the next eight points and extended their lead to 55-40. The Lakers tried to cut into their deficit with under six left. A jumper by Saams Jr. sparked a 6-0 run and made the score, 70-53.
The Lakers tallied eight of the final 10 points but ultimately Augusta was too much for the Lakers in the second half and won 79-61.
