SAINT AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team hit the road for a Peach Belt Conference matchup with the Saints of Flagler College on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers bounced back from their loss on Wednesday night to shut out the Saints, 2-0.
The Laker keeper
David Magala was tested early in the first half as he saved a pair of shots in the first five minutes of the match. One of the best opportunities for the Lakers to score early on was in the 14th minute when
Josy Gomez's shot, off a corner kick by
Geo Rios, sailed just high over the net keeping the score at 0-0. The score was deadlocked at zeros until the Lakers finally broke through. In the 35th minute, after
Vic Delgado Miller was fouled in the box,
Langston Blackstock fired his penalty shot past the Flagler keeper for his fourth goal of the season. Clayton State led, 1-0.
Magala made four saves in the first half and Blackstock led the team with a pair of shots as the Lakers took a 1-0 lead going into the half.
Halftime: Clayton State 1, Flagler 0
The Lakers started off the second half fast and tacked on another goal. In the 51st minute, off a beautiful longball by
Hector Fuentes, Blackstock scored his second goal of the season as the Lakers doubled up the Saints, 2-0. Neither team had any great opportunities to score until the end of the half as Blackstock's shot at the 85th minute was saved by the keeper and his shot at the 89th minute deflected off the post.
Blackstock scores twice and Magala made some key saves as the Lakers shutout the Saints, 2-0.
