MORROW, Ga.-- The Clayton State University men's soccer team played a physical match with the Pioneers of Tusculum University at Laker Field on Monday Evening. The two teams played to a 3-3 draw.
The Lakers had some great opportunities to score early in the first half, but the Pioneers rang the cash register first in the 31
st minute to make the score, 1-0. In the closing minutes of the first half, off a corner kick by
Geo Rios and a one-touch pass from
Josy Gomez,
Langston Blackstock scored his first goal of the match to tie the match at one. The Lakers outshot the Pioneers 13-3 in the first half as the two teams went into the locker room tied at one.
Halftime: Tusculum 1, Clayton State 1
The Lakers got off to a sparkling start in the second half. In the 52
nd minute,
Isami Takeuchi fed the ball to Blackstock inside to the middle of the box for his second goal of the match. The Lakers led 2-1. The Pioneers managed to tie the match six minutes later. In the 65
th minute, Tusculum pulled ahead 3-2 after taking advantage of a Laker foul that was just outside the box.
The rest of the second half got chippy and was played physical. The Lakers did not go down without a fight. In the 89
th minute, after a handball in the box by the Pioneers, Blackstock tied the match at three after sending his penalty shot past the Tusculum keeper.
The Lakers outshot the Pioneers 25-9 in the match but settled for a 3-3 draw.
