MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team opened their 2022 season at Laker Field against the Wolves of the University of West Georgia on a sweltering Saturday afternoon. The Wolves shut out the Lakers, 2-0.
In the eighth minute of the match, the Wolves had an early breakaway opportunity that resulted in the match's first goal, making the score, 1-0. The Lakers had an opportunity in the 11
th minute to score, when
Tahlia Stangherlin sent in a shot, but it was snuffed out by the Wolves' keeper. The match remained 1-0, West Georgia. West Georgia kept up the pressure in the remaining time in the first half but good goalkeeping by
Lisa Kelm kept the Wolves off the scoreboard heading into the half.
Stangherlin,
Luise Domnick, and
Frederikke Troldborg all took one shot in the half.

The Wolves tacked on their second goal of the match in the 58
th minute. After a Laker yellow card, West Georgia's Hillary Resendiz bent in an excellent free kick to make the score, 2-0. The Lakers' best chance to get on the board was in the 66
th minute when
Daniela Gularte sent in a shot off a corner kick, but it was saved by the Wolves' goalkeeper.
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower led the Lakers with a pair of shots, but Clayton State fell, 2-0, in their season opening match.
