MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team opened its season at Laker Field on Friday evening hosting the Fleet of Erskine College. The Lakers scored an onslaught of goals as they blank the Flying Fleet, 6-0.
The Lakers had a golden opportunity four minutes into the match when
Youkendjy Pacius was fouled in the box forcing a penalty kick. Pacius' kick was denied by the Fleet keeper and the score remained 0-0. The Lakers then took the lead as
Hector Fuentes fed the ball to
Geo Rios, who finished for the goal. Clayton State took a 1-0 lead in the 15
th minute. At the 18
th minute, the Lakers took advantage of a yellow card by Erskine to score another goal. After a brilliant free kick by Rios, Green made a one-touch pass to Pacius for a Laker goal, making the score, 2-0.
The Lakers then keep their foot on the gas at the end of the half. In the 39
th minute,
Vic Delgado Miller knocked in his first goal of a beautiful pass by Rios in the middle of the box. The Lakers took a 3-0 lead going into the half. The Lakers outshot the Flying Fleet 13-1 in the first half.
Halftime: Clayton State 3, Erskine 0
In the second half, The Lakers kept pushing tempo and the pressure against the Flying Fleet. In the 63
rd minute, after a one-touch pass, on the near-side, by
Alexis Iturria, Rios knocked in his second goal of the match and grew the Laker lead to 4-0. The Lakers then added another score a couple of minutes later. After Iturria's shot was deflected off the Erskine keeper,
Charlie Longino cleaned up the mess and marked his first career goal, making the score 5-0. The Lakers concluded the scoring in the 76
th minute when
Niall Swan and
Andree Jimenez fed
Isaac Pimenta in the box for a goal. Clayton State took a 6-0 lead.
The Lakers only allowed three Flying Fleet shots as they won their 2022 season opener, 6-0.
