MORROW, Ga. – Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher has announced the addition of Jamal Watson to the Clayton State Athletics staff. Watson will serve as Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine.
 
No stranger to the Peach Belt Conference, Watson joins Laker Nation after spending three seasons at conference opponent Columbus State University as an Assistant Athletic Trainer. While at Columbus, Watson covered men's basketball, baseball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's tennis.
 
"Jamal's experience and network in the Peach Belt Conference will position him nicely for this role," Erlacher said. "He comes highly recommended and has spent the last few years at one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the Southeast Region.
 
"We look forward to seeing how Jamal can continue to elevate our sports medicine department and expand on all the great work that has been done over the past two years. We are excited to welcome him to Clayton State University and back to the Atlanta area."
 
Watson has assisted with treatments, rehab and medical paperwork for student-athletes under his care. He has also been responsible for athletic training coverage at games and practices and the scheduling of doctor visits.
 
"I am excited to become part of the Laker family and eager to be of service to the Clayton State student-athletes," Watson said. "I want to thank Ryan Erlacher for the opportunity to join the Lakers and the rest of the Athletics staff for welcoming me to their campus."
 
Prior to Columbus State, Watson spent two seasons at Young Harris as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer where he covered men's basketball and men's and women's tennis.
 
Watson earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training and a Master of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Georgia. He is BOC, First Aid and CPR/AED certified. Jamal is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association.
