ATLANTA – The Clayton State men's and women's track & field teams competed on the first day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open Friday and will return on Saturday to conclude the meet.
The Lakers competed across eight different events while 18 athletes participated in at least one discipline.
Ny'Asia Green led the way on the women's side with a second-place result in the long jump. Green cleared 5.35m on her third attempt to set a personal best in the event.
Jasmine Benson and Dani Rutstein also competed in the long jump, finishing 20th and 22nd, respectively.
In the men's long jump,
Justin Johnson also turned in a second-place result with a mark of 6.67m while
D'Eris Jackson finished third after clearing 6.55m.
Abijah Wilcox turned in a 10th place finish.
Derrick Ward picked up a point after running 57.96 in the men's 400m hurdles, taking eighth overall.
Aija Wall placed 13th in the women's 200m with a time of 26.24 while
Paige Searles finished 24th.
In the men's 200m,
Joshua Ferrell ran 22.07 and placed seventh to earn two points.
Kelvin Oppong finished 19th while
Gary Moore placed 37th and
Churchill Ezeokonkwo finished 41st.
Baqi Lecky, competing in the men's high jump for the first time, cleared 1.70m and finished 11th.
In the women's javelin, Kamila Mroziewicz threw 20.83m to finish 20th while Ida Ditlevsen finished 25th and Aubrey Harrison finished 26th.
Clayton State will close the meet on Saturday.
