BIRMINGHAM,Ala. – The Clayton State University track & field teams competed in its final tune-up before the conference meet on Friday. The UAB Vulcan Invitational was stacked with top-tier talent but the Lakers were battle-tested and ready to take on the field.
MEN'S SIDE
The Lakers kicked off action on the track in the 60m dash where
Dominic Archer paced the team with a time of 7.12, which is good for the 10
th fastest time in program history. Then,
Camron Gaddis get off to a quick start in the mile run placing in fourth overall with a time of 4:21.52.
Mykell Strickland followed Gaddis with a 14
th place finish with a time of 4:38.03. In the 400m dash,
Rohan Holness paced the team with a time of 51.43, which is good for a PR. In the 800m run,
Nehemiah Horton finished in 17
th with a time of 1:58.73. In the 200m dash,
Titus Hand led the team clocking a final time of 22.82 seconds. Action on the track for the Lakers ended in the 4x400 meter relay where the team of Holness,
Rakiem Barnes, Hand, and Horton finished in 11
th place clocking a final time of 3:24.07, which is good for ninth all-time.
In the field,
Davonte Jackson had a strong showing in the long jump finishing in third place with a final distance of 6.88m. He followed that up with a 10
th place finish in the triple jump with a final mark of 14.16m. In the high jump,
Christian Wiltshire placed 20
th with a final height of 1.76m.
WOMEN'S SIDE
The Lakers kicked off action on the track in the 60m dash where
Payton Knowles paced the team with a time of 8.04 seconds, which is tied for the fifth-fastest time in program history. Action on the track continued for the Lakers in the 400m dash as Ziona Harris finished with a time of 60.64 while
JaBresha Palmer and
Rebecca Oji finished with times of 60.97 and 61.39, respectively. Harris currently ranks eighth and Palmer is ninth in program history with those times.
Ivorie Smith then finished in 21
st place in the 800m run with a time of 2:25.79, which is the seventh best time in school history.
Marley Tate then followed behind with the eighth fastest time with 2:26.38. In the 200m dash,
Jada Jenkins paced the Lakers with a time of 26.05, which is good for a new PR.
The Lakers then closed out the meet with a 13
th place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Harris, Palmer, Smith, and Jenkins ran a time of 4:09.33.
