Women's Basketball Runs Away With Win Over USC Aiken

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's basketball team led wire-to-wire Monday night, defeating USC Aiken 73-54 in a Peach Belt Conference matchup. 

With the win, Clayton State jumped to fourth to tie with Columbus State in the conference standings. The two teams meet on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in Morrow. 

The Lakers opened the first quarter with a Diamond Swift jumper to go up 2-0 just 16 seconds into the game and pulled ahead 18-5 with under four minutes to play in the first. The Pacers would slightly recover but trailed 22-12 going into the second. 

Clayton State poured it on in the second, outscoring Aiken 24-9 to lead 46-21 at halftime. 

Three players scored in double-figures for Clayton State. Timi'a Swanson led the way with 15 points and had five steals, three rebounds and three assists. 

The third quarter was a bit closer, but the Lakers still led by 29 points with just the fourth to play. 

Audrey McElhaney added 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hannah Wright shot 4-of-6 from the behind the arc, scoring 14 points on the night. 

Clayton State managed only six points in the fourth while the Pacers scored 16 to make it a 19-point deficit to end the game. 

The Lakers scored 29 points off 31 Aiken turnovers.
