MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team gave it their all Saturday evening but fell 84-74 to No. 10 Augusta University.
With the win and a Flagler loss, the Jaguars claim the Peach Belt Conference regular season title.
Ricardo Lynch scored a career and game-high 26 points as he went 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
Brian Coffey II added a season-high 19 points as he hit all four 3-point attempts.
The Jags jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead in the first two minutes before the Lakers answered with a
Kobie Johnson 3-pointer. Clayton State kept the lead under double digits until Augusta went up 27-16 at the 9:09 mark.
AU would eventually take a 41-26 lead with 4:42 remaining, but Clayton State closed the half with a 12-2 run to trail by five at halftime.
The two teams traded baskets to start the second half. A Lynch 3-pointer at 15:02 made it a 50-50 game before the Lakers eventually took a 60-54 lead with under 10 minutes to play.
Augusta would take the lead back for good at 5:23 off a Miguel Arnold 3-pointer. The Jags would pull away to take the win.
Xavier Joyner added 12 points while
Jalen Shaw just missed out on a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Ricardo Saams Jr. also had nine rebounds.
