MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's basketball team dropped it Homecoming game Saturday, losing 76-56 to Columbus State in a Peach Belt Conference matchup.
With the loss, both teams are now tied for fourth in the conference standings. Columbus State holds the tiebreaker after sweeping the Lakers this season.
The Cougars took a 6-0 lead to start the game and built their lead to 19-9 with 13 seconds left. A pair of
Diamond Swift free throws made it an eight-point game after the first quarter.
The Lakers held solid in the second, but Columbus State maintained its leads and had a 38-28 advantage at halftime.
Clayton State couldn't do much on offense throughout the game as the team went 18-of-71, shooting just 25.4% from the field.
Raven Riley led the team with 16 points while going 10-of-10 from the free throw line. As a team, the Lakers went 20-of-25 from the charity stripe.
The second half wasn't any better for Clayton State as Columbus State pulled away in the fourth to take the 20-point win.
Audrey McElhaney and
Taniya Patrick each had 11 points. Patrick also added four rebounds, four steals and six blocks.
