Men’s and Women’s Basketball to Play at GSW Wednesday Night

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's and women's basketball teams will play at Georgia Southwestern University Wednesday night for their second-straight Peach Belt Conference road doubleheader.
 
The women tipoff at 5:30 p.m. while the men are set for a 7:30 p.m. tip. Fans can watch the game here.
 
Both the men and women are coming off losses at Augusta on Saturday. Both teams are fighting for their conference tournament chances with just a month left in regular season play.
 
The women's team dropped an eight-point contest Saturday and sit seventh in the league standings. Wednesday's meeting is the first matchup against GSW this season. The two teams play again on Feb. 23.
 
Prior to Saturday's loss, Clayton State earned a huge 64-62 win over Flagler at home Wednesday night off a Audrey McElhaney layup in the final second.
 
McElhaney leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 16.6 points per game. She also has 8.3 rebounds a game which ranks sixth in the conference and leads the team.
 
Timi'a Swanson adds 11.9 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while Taniya Patrick averages 7.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 steal and 1.1 block per game. Clayton State is 32-14 all-time against GSW and has gone 8-2 against the Hurricanes in the last 10 meetings.
 
GSW has won three-straight and owns a 16-3 record this season while going 8-2 in league play, putting them second in the standings. Wednesday will start a four-game homestand for the Canes.
 
Three players are scoring in double figures for GSW who is led by Ava Jones and her 15.9 points per game. Lex Chatman leads the team with 6.6 rebounds.
 
The men's basketball team is looking to pick up its second conference win of the season. The Lakers have dropped nine straight, eight being league games.
 
GSW leads the all-time series at 25-20 and have won the last two matchups. Wednesday's matchup is important for both teams as GSW sits eighth in the conference standings while the Lakers are ninth.
 
For the season, the Canes are 7-11 overall and 3-7 against PBC Teams.
 
Clayton State is led by Jalen Shaw who is scoring 14.1 points per game and is averaging 8.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.2 blocks. His rebounds top the conference while he is second in field goal percentage. His blocks rank fifth.
 
Donte Tatum leads the team with 15.9 points per game while two other Hurricanes are averaging double-digit points.
 
Devon Higgs has a team best 7.4 rebounds per game.
