The Lakers Close Out 2022 in Style Winning, 84-77, Over Tuskegee

Patrick led the Lakers with 15 points, eight boards, and five blocks

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's basketball team concluded play in 2022 as they defeated the Golden Tigers of Tuskegee University, 84-77, on Monday afternoon at the Loch. Taniya Patrick led the Lakers with 15 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks in the winning effort. 
 
Tuskegee started the first quarter scoring 10 of the first 13 points and were up 10-3.  At the score 12-6, a layup by Jessica Maye sparked a 10-0 run to end the first quarter.  The Lakers took a 16-12 lead.  Jasmyn Burts hit a pair of field goals and Laylah Davis drained a three. 
 
After the Golden Tigers started the second quarter off on a 6-0 run, Patrick scored the next six Laker points on her own as they took a 22-18 lead.  Jadah Waite then drained a three-pointer and tossed in a jumper to extend the lead to 27-20.
 
In the final minutes of the quarter, Jordan Jones, Burts, Audrey McElhaney, and Waite all added points as the Lakers extended their lead to 39-27 going into the halftime break. The Lakers forced 16 turnovers in the first half.

Tuskegee started the third quarter scoring eight of the first 12 points but still trailed 43-35.  After the Golden Tigers closed the gap to seven at 45-38, Clayton State went on an 8-3 run and led 52-41.  Maye knocked down a pair of baskets during that stretch.  Jada Moss and Diamond Swift hit shots in the final two minutes of the quarter as the Lakers pulled ahead 57-45 in the end of three quarters of play.
 
Patrick's layup and a three by Swift opened the fourth quarter on a high note for the Lakers as they extended their lead to 17 at 62-45. Tuskegee then pulled within nine at 64-55 after they went on a 10-2 run.  With 5:30 left and at the score 69-61, Davis and Burts combined for the next five points for the Lakers as they took A 74-61 lead.  Then, the Golden Tigers tried to cut into that lead and went on a 14-4 run and closed the gap to three at 80-77. 
 
The Lakers knocked in the final five points of the game as they went onto win, 84-77.
