MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Clayton State men's basketball team saw a big night from
Jalen Shaw but fell in the final game of the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament to host Florida Tech, 74-63.
Both teams got off to fast starts at the beginning of the first half. The Lakers took an early, 9-8, lead after
Wes Williams nailed a three and Shaw and
Ricardo Saams Jr. made baskets. Florida Tech then rattled off 13 straight points until Saams Jr. hit a jumper. The Panthers led 21-11 in the halfway point of the half. Florida Tech led by as much as 15 until the Lakers started chipping away their deficit. With 7:30 left, Shaw and Saams Jr. led an 10-2 run and closed the gap to 28-19.
The Lakers saw
Travis Harper II,
Brian Coffey II, and
Xavier Joyner hit field goals in the final two minutes of the half, but the Panthers took a 46-35 lead going into the half.

After the Panthers scored the first four points of the half, The Lakers went on a 14-2 run but still trailed by 10 at 54-49. However, the Panthers would answer with a 10-0 run of their own and extended their lead to 64-49. The Lakers then countered with a 9-0 run of their own and shrunk the deficit to six at 64-58.
That was the closest the Lakers got in the final minutes of the game and the Panthers prevailed in the end winning, 74-63.
