The Lakers Suffer a 92-89 Setback on the Eve of Thanksgiving

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team played the Eagles of Carson-Newman on the eve of Thanksgiving at the Loch.  The Eagles squeaked out a 92-89 victory over the Lakers. 
 
Christian Chambers got off to a fast start for the Lakers as he made a three-pointer and a jumper.  The Lakers took a 5-2 lead.  After the Eagles made a three, Ricardo Saams Jr. scored the next five points and the Lakers led, 10-5.  After Wes Williams drained a three-pointer to make the score, 13-8, Carson-Newman went on a 10-4 run and made the score, 18-17.  With 6:35 left in the half and with the Eagles up 29-24, Jalen Shaw and Chambers combined for the next five Laker points and tied the game at 29. 
 
The end of the half went back-and-forth as neither team could gain any momentum until the final minute.  The Eagles hit back-to-back threes in the final 40 seconds and they led 41-35 going into the half.

The two teams traded baskets in the first five minutes of the second half.  Saams Jr., Baqi Lecky, Bryce Weinmunson, and Kobie Johnson all made field goals during that stretch.  The Lakers cut the deficit to 50-47.  With 10 minutes left, the two teams kept trading shots as neither team could distance themselves away from one another.  Travis Harper II made a couple of big three-points with 7:30 to go in the game.  The Lakers led 68-67. 
 
With the Lakers up 87-86 with 48 seconds left, the Eagles scored six of the final eight points of the game and won 92-89.
