GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Clayton State University men's basketball team concluded play at the PBC/SAC Challenge on Saturday as they played the host school Tusculum University. The Lakers fell, 88-77.
Brian Coffey II opened the scoring and buried a three as the Lakers led, 3-2. The Pioneers then drained three, three-pointers in a row and took an 11-3 lead.
Ricardo Saams Jr. broke up that run with a layup. At the score 15-7, Christian Chambers tossed in the next four points and cut the Pioneer lead to 15-11. Tusculum then drained two more threes and extended its lead to 21-11. With six minutes left and the Pioneers up 37-20,
Travis Harper II tossed in a three-pointer and cut the lead to 37-23.
Harper II,
Kobie Johnson, and Chambers all made baskets in the final minutes of the half, but the Lakers trailed 49-32. Chambers led the Lakers with 11 points and
Wes Williams grabbed a team-high five boards.

After Tusculum scored the first four points of the second half, a dunk by Harper II and a jumper by Chambers, closed the gap back to 17 at 53-36. Midway through the half, with the Pioneers up 62-40, Harper II sparked an 11-0 run and moved the score to 62-51.
Travis Harper II scored seven of the 11 points during that stretch. The Pioneers then distanced themselves from the Lakers towards the end of the half and led by as much as 20 at 78-58.
Johnson, Chambers, and Harper II all marked points in the final minute of the game but that proved to be too little too late as the Lakers came out on the wrong end of an 88-77 decision.
