MORROW, Ga. – The Department of Athletics at Clayton State University hosted its annual Laker Golf Classic on Friday, September 30^th and saw increases in participation and revenue generated.  This year, Georgia's Own Credit Union served as the Title Sponsor while Pepsi was the presenting sponsor. 
 
The golf classic was played at Crystal Lake Golf and Country Club in Hampton, Ga. The Lakers raised over $57,000, setting a new Laker Golf Classic record of funds raised and that total was also a 17% increase from last year's total of $50,000 raised. 
 
"We are extremely grateful for everyone who contributed to making this year's Laker Golf Classic a huge success, especially our participants and sponsors," said Director of Athletics, Ryan Erlacher.  "With Hurricane Ian approaching, we weren't sure if we would get the event in, but it ended up being a beautiful day.  We had a great turnout and raised significant funds that will make an immediate impact on our athletics program."
 
The funds raised by the Department of Athletics are intended to continue to help build and maintain championship level programs and to provide the best possible student-athlete experience here at Clayton State. 
 
Along with the record number of funds raised, the 2022 Laker Golf Classic saw an event-record 100 participants, including sponsors, and had 20 teams compete. Falcon Design won the Laker Golf Classic this year.  Following Falcon Design was Busbee Consulting and Thomas Muthoka and his team, who placed second and third, respectively.
 
The Department of Athletics at Clayton State University thanks everyone involved for their participation in the event and are look forward to a similar turnout next year!
