Clayton State Notches Non-Conference Victory at North Greenville

Blackstock and Torres mark goals for the Lakers

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team stepped out of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play as they took on the Crusaders of North Greenville University on Saturday evening.  The Lakers notched their third shutout in their last four matches and won, 2-0. 
 
The Lakers put the pressure on the Crusader keeper early and often in the first half as John Michael Torres, Geo Rios, and Langston Blackstock all fired in shots in the first 20 minutes of the match.  Clayton State kept up the pace as Vic Delgado Miller notched a team-high three shots in the first half.  Then, the Lakers finally broke through and opened the scoring.  In the 36th minute, Blackstock crossed the ball to Torres who finished with his first goal of the season making the score, 1-0.  Clayton State outshot North Greenville, 10-2, and led 1-0 going into the break.

The Lakers got off to a fast start in the second half.  In the 47th minute, off a nice through-ball by Christian Ransome, Blackstock broke away from a pair of defenders and found the back of the net for a goal.  The Lakers pulled out in front, 2-0.  The Lakers played on the defense in the rest of the second half and allowed six Crusader shots.  David Magala smothered a pair of saves in the half. 
 
The Lakers handed the Crusaders their second shutout of the season as they won, 2-0.
