COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State men's basketball team fell 85-70 Saturday evening at Columbus State in a road Peach Belt Conference matchup.
The Lakers jumped out to a 6-2 lead behind back-to-back 3-pointers from
Kobie Johnson. The Cougars however stormed back and used a 19-4 run to pull ahead 21-10 at the 10:20 mark of the first half.
Clayton State had trouble cutting the deficit, but trailed by only five with just over two minutes left. The Cougars would end up leading by 10 at the break.
Despite outshooting Columbus State from the field, the Cougars went 32-of-34 from the free throw line while Clayton State went just 5-of-8. Langston Gaither shot 19-of-20 from the charity stripe and finished with a game-high 37 points.
Columbus State controlled the second half and held its lead between 13 and 18 points.
Johnson led the Lakers with 22 points, marking a career high.
Jalen Shaw added 17 points and seven rebounds.
Wes Williams chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.
