AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Clayton State women's basketball team dropped a road Peach Belt Conference matchup Saturday, losing 66-58 to Augusta University. 

It took 1:52 for either team to score the game's first basket as Augusta drained a 3-pointer to begin a 12-4 run to open the first quarter. The Jags continued to hold a lead and closed the first 10 minutes with a 20-12 advantage. 

The Lakers held the Jags to 20% shooting in the second and outscored Augusta 15-8 to close the deficit to 28-27 at halftime. 

With the loss, Clayton State falls to seventh in the conference standings while Augusta climbs into the top four. 

Audrey McElhaney and Jessica Maye each had 12 points. McElhaney added 11 rebounds and was four steals away from a triple-double. 

As a team, Clayton State shot 15-of-20 from the free throw line, but was 3-of-14 from three. 

The Lakers briefly took the lead to start the third, but Augusta grabbed it back and extended the advantage to seven after three quarters. 

Clayton State didn't have an answer in the fourth as the Jags led by as many as 13 with seven seconds, but a Raven Riley 3-pointer and a pair of Diamond Swift free throws made the final score 66-58. 

Jadah Waite finished with nine points and three steals. Timi'a Swanson added eight points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
