MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's soccer team made its home debut on Saturday, coming out victorious with a 2-0 decision over Erskine College.
The Lakers (1-0-1) scored once in the first half and once in the second and held the Flying Fleet (0-2) to two shots on goal.
Langston Blackstock scored his first goal of the season in the 13th minute after the Erskine goalkeeper repossessed the ball. The keeper went to throw the ball into play, mishandled it and picked it back up, which is a foul.
That prompted an indirect free-kick for the Lakers inside the 18-yard box.
Geo Rios played the ball quickly to Blackstock who managed to squeeze it between nearly the entire Fleet defense, giving the Lakers an early 1-0 lead.
Clayton State pressured the first half and outshot Erskine 11-2 with six shots coming from Blackstock.
It would take the Lakers a bit longer to find the back of the net again in the second half.
Another free-kick opportunity found
Alexis Iturria, who, using some fancy footwork, squeaked the ball along on the endline to find
Joe Conway who finished it for the second goal of the match.
Erskine did outshoot the Lakers in the second half but was unable to find the back of the net.
Blackstock had a game-high seven shots with three being on goal.
COMING UP:
- Clayton State travels to Queens Univ. (N.C.) on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
- The Lakers are then back at home on Friday for a 7 p.m. meeting with Auburn-Montgomery.
