MORROW, Ga. – Niall Swan only played 11 minutes in Saturday's men's soccer match against Flagler, but the second-year Laker made the most of it as Clayton State won 3-2 Saturday afternoon.
Tied 2-2 with just under four minutes left to play,
Langston Blackstock played a brilliant ball just in front of the goal, finding Swan who got a foot on it to score the gamewinner.
The first half was a scoreless affair as Flagler outshot Clayton State 7-6.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Saints to find the back of the net as Matteo Costa scored his first of two goals in the 47th minute. Less than five minutes later, another Costa goal put Flagler ahead 2-0.
Refusing to quit, Clayton State began an attack as six different players registered at least one point in the final half.
With just under 33 minutes left to play,
Joel McIlroy delivered a cross finding
Brad Kay who headed to the ball to a wide-open Blackstock who scored the first goal for the Lakers.
Over six minutes later,
Christian Ransome connected with
Geo Rios who played the ball to
Joe Conway. Conway needed just two touches as he found
Brad Kay who one-timed it in for the equalizer.
The Lakers continued the pressure and had several opportunities to score before Swan delivered the eventual game-winner.
Clayton State finished with 16 shots (eight on goal) while
Theo Blachon made five saves.
COMING UP:
- The Lakers are on the road Wednesday to face Lander University at 7:00 PM.
