GREER, S.C. – The Clayton State men's soccer team opened the season on Thursday with a 2-2 draw against Lees-McRae in a neutral-site matchup.
The Lakers (0-0-1) scored the game's first goal off a
Lewis Green header in the 12th minute that featured a
Geo Rios assist.
Clayton State held the advantage until Lees-McRae (0-0-1) scored in the 37th minute to even the score at 1-1.
Rios didn't waste much time in the second half as he scored in the 50th minute with assists from
Joe Conway and
Langston Blackstock,
With time winding down, it seemed the Lakers would be able to close the match out, but the Bobcats scored once again in the 86th minute to score what would be the final goal of the match.
Clayton State managed four shots in extra time.
Blackstock had a game-high six shots and matched Rios with three shots on goal. As a team, the Lakers had 10 shots on goal.
