MORROW, Ga. – Out of an abundance of caution, the Clayton State Department of Athletics has announced that its 2021 Hall of Fame Ceremony has been postponed until February 11, 2022.

Originally scheduled for Sept. 24, the Lakers were set to enshrine former women's basketball coach Dennis Cox and the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship Team into the Clayton State Athletics Hall of Fame.

"Our Hall of Fame induction ceremony is such a special and once in a lifetime event for our inductees and our goal has always been to provide an exceptional experience for them," Director of Athletics Ryan Erlacher said. "With this being such a close contact event, we would hate for teammates and friends who may not have seen each other in years to not feel comfortable in those embraces or conversations.

"Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control as they relate to COVID-19, we weren't confident we could accomplish our goal of providing an amazing experience to our attendees without some level of uneasiness.

"For everyone's wellbeing, we felt it would be best to postpone the event. We have an incredible program planned to honor our inductees, with a number of exciting surprises for those in attendance. We can't wait to celebrate this special night with our inductees, their families and friends in February."

Clayton State will honor all tickets purchased to date and encourages supporters to keep their registration in case of a sellout. Refunds will be issued upon request.

The new date will coincide with Clayton State's Homecoming Week. The Lakers' men's and women's basketball teams are scheduled to host Columbus State on Feb. 12.
