MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State men's basketball head coach
Vince Alexander has announced the hiring of Dré Anthony as assistant coach for the men's basketball program. Anthony joins
Jason Roscoe who joined the staff in July.
A former student-athlete under Alexander, Anthony joins the Lakers after coaching at the high school level for the past four years.
"I am beyond excited to have André join our staff. He's not only a remarkable coach but he's an even better person," Alexander said. "I had the opportunity to coach André at USC Aiken, and he is one of the finer young men I have had honor to coach. I am looking forward to working with him and watching him help our program reach a nationally-competitive level."
Anthony has served as an assistant girls basketball coach under Riikka Lehtonen and a middle school advisor at The Lovett School in Atlanta. While working with the Lions, Anthony helped guide the team to a Region Championship during the 2018-19 season. That season also saw Lovett reach the GHSA State Quarterfinals.
"I'm extremely grateful and humble to get this opportunity to join Coach Alexander's coaching staff and the Clayton State community," Anthony said. "Coach Alexander has made a huge impact on who I am as a man today. He has the ability to maximize his player's potential and also lift up communities that exist around his program.
"The Peach Belt Conference is one of the best conferences in Division II basketball. I'm excited to be back in the PBC and look forward to getting the program back in the right direction."
Following the 2018-19 season, Anthony was named the Region 5-AAA Assistant Coach of the Year.
Prior to joining The Lovett School, Anthony served as assistant boy's coach at Valley High School in New Kensington, Pa. He helped the team to a Section Championship and a PIAA State Quarterfinal appearance.
Anthony began his playing career at Community College of Beaver County where he was named an All-American and Region 20 Player of the Year. Following two seasons at Beaver County, Anthony joined USC Aiken and played one season for Coach Alexander. He served as team captain and helped the Pacers to the PBC tournament.
He would close his career at Clarion University and scored 1,846 points across his four years of collegiate basketball. He went on to play professionally for Altopascio in Italy and for the Steel City Yellow Jackets of the ABA.
Anthony received a master's degree in sport management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2020, a bachelor's degree in liberal studies from Clarion in 2016 and an associate's degree in education from Beaver County in 2014.
