PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Clayton State men's soccer team fell 2-1 to Peach Belt Conference rival Young Harris on Monday.
The Lakers (3-5, 3-5) stepped away from Laker Field and hosted the Mountain Lions (5-4-1, 5-4-1 PBC) at the MOBA Soccer Complex.
Young Harris scored the game's first goal in the 10th minute to take an early lead. The Lakers battled hard after the early score and eventually found themselves in a great opportunity to tie the match.
After a Young Harris foul on
Alexis Iturria was called inside the box, the Lakers turned to
Langston Blackstock to take the penalty kick.
Blackstock would deliver a powerful strike to the right of the goal and evened the score 1-1 with 21:53 left to play in the first half.
Both teams would be held scoreless for the remainder of the half.
Six of the Lakers' eight games this season have been decided by one goal, including the 4-3 overtime loss to Young Harris in late February.
The second half was a much more physical half for both teams.
Young Harris would score the gamewinner in the 56th minute. Goalkeeper
Theo Blachon was in the process of gathering a Mountain Lion free kick before Saad Maziane got a foot on the ball, scoring the goal to put Young Harris up 2-1.
Clayton State continued to pressure the Mountain Lions but time ran out on the Lakers.
Blackstock delivered all three of his shots on goal while
Geo Rios finished with three shots with one on goal.
