CLEMSON, S.C. – Clayton State newcomer
Cayla Brown set a program record in the 300m as the women's track & field team opened its indoor season Friday.
The freshman from Austell, Ga. broke Maia Kuhnen's nine-year old record by just over two seconds to etch her name into the Lakers' record books in just her first collegiate meet.
Competing against mostly NCAA Division I institutions, the Lakers participated in just nine events. A total of 16 teams made up the field as 10 were Division I opponents, four were Division II and two were NAIA schools.
In the long jump,
Ny'Asia Green placed 16-of-26 with a mark of 5.07m.
Kalkidan Hawkins finished third in the mile run and also had a seventh place result in the 800m.
Sasha Knowles took fifth in the 800m while
Marina Brown placed sixth.
Haley Miller captured an 11th place finish in the shot put with a mark of 9.97m.
A total of 11 personal best marks were set on Friday.
The Lakers don't hit the track until January 16th when they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Emory CrossPlex Invite.
