Women’s Basketball Hosts Carson-Newman for Home Opener on Tuesday

MORROW, Ga. – After starting the season with four-consecutive wins, the Clayton State women's basketball team will make its home debut on Tuesday with a 5:30 p.m. matchup against Carson-Newman University.

Tuesday's game is Community Night and the Department of Athletics will be giving away t-shirts to the first 100 fans to make their way to The Loch. 

The Lakers enter the contest having won their first four games by a scoring margin of 14 points, but earned their closest win on Saturday, holding of Delta State for a 56-52 win.

Clayton State will face its toughest battle of the season so far against the Eagles. Carson-Newman was ranked 21st in the WBCA Preseason Rankings and is currently ranked fifth in the Southeast Regional Rankings, one spot ahead of the Lakers.

The Eagles currently sit at 3-1 after dropping their season-opener to No. 3 Lander. They then won three straight, outscoring their opponents by 38 points.

Tuesday will be the 10th meeting between the two teams. Clayton State holds a 5-4 record over CNU and won the last matchup, 78-68, in 2019. At home, the Lakers are 2-2.

Timi'a Swanson leads the Lakers with 14.8 points per game while Audrey McElhaney tops the team with 6.8 rebounds a game. As a team, Clayton State is scoring 66 points a game while shooting 39% from the field.

Clayton State opponents are scoring just 52 points per contest and are turning over the ball 21.3 times per game while Clayton State is averaging 12.5 steals.

The Lakers have one more home game on Dec. 7 with a matchup against Clark Atlanta. On Friday and Saturday, they make their way up to Belmont Abbey for a pair of games against Belmont Abbey and Johnson C. Smith.
