PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – The Clayton State men's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 5 Young Harris on a rainy, Wednesday afternoon Peach Belt Conference matchup.
Playing at the MOBA Soccer Complex in Peachtree City, Ga., the Mountain Lions scored the opening goal in the ninth minute to pull ahead 1-0. After keeper
Theo Blachon punched the ball out of the box off a corner, Riccardo Sambugaro collected the ball and buried it in the back of the net.
Young Harris currently sits atop the the PBC with 18 points while the Lakers slipped to third after Lander's 2-1 win over Flagler on Wednesday. Lander has 12 points while Clayton State has 10 points.
Clayton State wouldn't stay down for long as pressure from
Alexis Iturria and
Langston Blackstock forced a misplay by the YHC keeper. Blackstock was able to corral the ball and tap it in to draw even with the Mountain Lions in the 23rd minute.
Young Harris finished the game with 16 shots while Clayton State had 12.
The second half saw much more action as three red cards were issued, all against Clayton State, and four yellow cards were handed out. Young Harris scored with a man advantage in the 71st minute as Sambugaro found the back of the net in a similar fashion off a corner kick. While the play was protested for offsides, the call stood and the Lakers trailed 2-1 for the remainder of the match.
