AIKEN, S.C. –
Isaac Pimenta scored a career-high three goals as the men's soccer team won 5-1 over USC Aiken in Wednesday's Peach Belt Conference matchup.
With the win, the Lakers move one-step closer to securing second place in the PBC standings. Clayton State has 22 points while Flagler has 21 after a win over Ga. Southwestern. Flagler and Lander play each other on Saturday. A Lander win will secure a second place finish for Clayton State and a first-round bye in the quarterfinals.
Langston Blackstock scored the game's opening goal in the fifth minute after converting his second-straight penalty kick in as many games.
Just over three minutes later, Pimenta scored his first of three goals. After a Blackstock shot was saved, Pimenta put away the rebounded shot to give the Lakers a 2-0 lead.
Clayton State would lead 2-0 at halftime.
In the 59th minute, the Pimenta would ice the game with an assist from
Alexis Iturria.
Less than four minutes later, Iturria would score in the 63rd minute before Pimenta capped Clayton State's scoring in the 64th minute with an assist from
Geo Rios. Rios now leads the conference with 11 assists on the season.
Aiken would deny the shutout in the 86th minute.
Theo Blachon made 12 saves in the win which sets a career high.
Iturria led all players with four shots.
