Mroziewicz’s First-Half Goal Lifts Lakers Past UNG 1-0

MORROW, Ga. – Winners of four of their last five games, the Clayton State women's soccer team needed just one goal to prevail at Laker Field, 1-0, over North Georgia in Saturday's crucial Peach Belt Conference matchup.
 
Tied 0-0 for most of the first half, Kamila Mroziewicz scored off a Marie Devillers corner in the 40th minute to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead headed into halftime.
 
The goal proved the be the gamewinner, but Clayton State had to hold off a fierce offensive attack from the Nighthawks.
 
UNG outshot the Lakers 11-2 in the final 45 minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.
 
With the win, Clayton State now sits tied for fourth in the regular season standings with UNG. The Lakers hold the tiebreaker over the Nighthawks with Saturday's win and needs to win next Saturday against Young Harris to clinch fourth in the standings and a home, PBC quarterfinal matchup.
 
The conference tournament begins on Nov. 6 with the top four teams hosting quarterfinal matches. The following week will see the semifinals and final be played at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga.

After starting the season 0-4-1, the Lakers have won five of their last seven. Two of their losses came to the No. 1 (Flagler – 9/18) and No. 2 (Columbus State – 10/16) teams in the country at the time the game was played.
 
Mroziewicz's goal was her fourth of the season while Devillers recorded her third assist.
 
Valentina Bonaiuto recorded her second consecutive shutout and fourth of the year.

- The Lakers wrap up the regular season on Oct. 30 for Senior Day as Young Harris makes its way to Morrow. Start time is set for 3 p.m.
